Volksrust
This northern gateway to the
Battlefields Route - with its
impressive Majuba Mountain backdrop -
gained its name from the sister of Dirk
Uys, Dorie de Jager. She called the
town Volksrust (the nation rests) when
battle-weary Boer soldiers came here to
recover from the rigours of the First
War of Independence.
Volksrust has a rich railway history.
